Who or what is Chartula?
Chartula is maintained and operated by Harold Henke, who has
23 years of experience
in the field of publishing and distance education. He has been involved in
the design, publication, and distribution of electronic books since the 1980's and has
been involved in distance education since 1992. He has also been an adjunct
professor at a leading university where he taught courses in business and
technical communications. He earned his Doctorate in Computing Technology
Education from Nova-Southeastern.
Why did you create a web site?
In the electronic book industry, a phrase is sometimes used to
describe the new model of publishing (or at least an alternative model of
publishing), which is author-server-reader. Simply put, the World Wide Web
enables us to communicate directly with you and since we specialize
in design and research of electronic books and distance education, it is
appropriate that we use the World Wide Web to communicate with you.
Who do I contact if I have comments, complaints, questions, or
suggestions?
Read our Contact page for information
and send us your e-mail.
Do you log who visits this website and make that information available to
other companies?
No. We hate it when other web sites capture information about us
and pass that information onto to other websites and companies. Our analogy is
it is similar to parking your car in a store's parking lot and the store records your auto
license number and sells that information to another company regardless of whether
you bought anything in the store or not. If stores did record your license
number, we doubt this practice would last very long. Privacy is an issue that is boiling on
the Internet and may boil over without the industry self-policing itself. We
respect your piracy just as we hope you respect our copyright of information
presented on this website.
What is your position on privacy in regards to people who visit
your website?
Read our Privacy statement but our
policy is we do not share any user information from this website with other
companies.
How do I reference content from this website in a report or
paper?
Go to Citations for
information. If you do refer to this site or an article on this site,
please send us a note, it makes us feel good.
Where is the multimedia? Where are the singing hamsters?
Where is the Flash?
Though we appreciate multimedia as much as the next person
(singing hamsters, excepted), we like to think of ourselves as content driven,
hence you will find more words here than audio, illustrations, or movies. With that said, electronic
books and distance education offer great potential to expand beyond just
words with many types of media but in our view, only when appropriate. Our web
site reflects our belief that while a painter has many brushes, colors, and
stokes to choose from, the message, that is the content, is what is
important. (Though we are still trying to understand Marshall McLuhan's
writings about the message and the medium.)
